Hyper Godzilla is a set of toy products released by Bandai in conjunction with the release of Godzilla (1998 film) in Japan. This 8 piece Hyper Godzilla series was released in 1998 in conjunction with the Japanese release of the Tristar Godzilla film. The figures are highly detailed and some are fully painted, with instructions on how to assemble the toy on the back of it's respective box. The sides of the box show images of each of the toys in the series.

All of the figures in the Hyper Set are reissues of figures that appeared in earlier 4 inch candy toy sets, barring only a select few of them. The figures with new molds are easily discernable from the re-releases because they have wierd plastic parts jutting from them, while the others do not. The Hyper series, like all 4 inch Bandai candy toys, have been recycled not only from other candy sets, but also into boxed sets.[1]

Set contains

Godzilla 1954

Like all of the other toys in the Hyper Godzilla candy set, this Godzilla '54 is 4 inches tall and fully painted. The toy comes in eight pieces and includes instructions on the back of the box on how to assemble it. Many collectors refer to the 4 inch figures as the Y300 series, because of the 300 Yen price printed on the box. The Hyper figures also correlate greatly with the Bandai boxed figure sets in both design and size.[2]

Godzilla 1962

Like all of the other toys in the Hyper Godzilla candy set, this Godzilla '62 is 4 inches tall and fully painted. The toy comes in eight pieces and includes instructions on the back of the box on how to assemble it. Many collectors refer to the 4 inch figures as the Y300 series, because of the 300 Yen price printed on the box. The Hyper figures also correlate greatly with the Bandai boxed figure sets in both design and size.[3]

Godzilla 1964

Like all of the other toys in the Hyper Godzilla candy set, this Godzilla '64 is 4 inches tall and fully painted. The toy comes in eight pieces and includes instructions on the back of the box on how to assemble it.[4]

Godzilla 1994

Like all of the other toys in the Hyper Godzilla candy set, this Godzilla '64 is 4 inches tall and fully painted. The toy comes in eight pieces and includes instructions on the back of the box on how to assemble it.[5]

Godzilla 1998

Like all of the other toys in the Hyper Godzilla candy set, this Tristar Godzilla is 4 inches tall. The toy comes in nine pieces and includes instructions on the back of the box on how to assemble it. The sculpt is very well done although interestingly enough, the sculpt retains the fifth finger that was originaly on the hands during pre-production of the film before ultimately being removed at the request of Toho. The lack of paint leaves much to be desired however as only the eyes are colored yellow-green and the dark blue plastic is highly inacurate. Posture-wise, the figure stands a bit more erect than in the film, although this is still movie accurate as it is similar to the posture the creature took as prepared to jump atop the Brooklyn Bridge.

A second Tristar Godzilla was released in late 1998 in the Mothra Kaiju Legends Set , though they are entirely different molds.

Godzilla Junior

Like all of the other toys in the Hyper Godzilla candy set, this Godzilla Junior is 4 inches tall and fully painted. The toy comes in six pieces and includes instructions on the back of the box on how to assemble it.[6]
