Appearance:
Anguirus has a dragon like head, he has a talk nasal horn, long fangs, spiky brows, and a few additional spikes near his eyes. He also has a crown of spikes on the back of his head. He has a balanced physique, an armored carapace with multiple backwards facing spikes, and he also has armor on his legs that have spikes as well. His tail is thin and has a single row of spikes. He has a solid club on the tip of his tail that has multiple spikes on it.
Colors:
His eyes and outer layer of his carapace are brown. His nose, pupil, and parts of his club are black. His carapace, armor, claws, and club are grey. His spikes are a vibrant yellow. And his main color is a faded blue. His mouth is red, mouth membranes are cream, and his teeth are a bone color.
Personality & History:
When Anguirus was young, unlike many Kaiju who had a great start when it came to fighting due to their intense training, Anguirus was sort of the unlucky one of the lot.
Due to the lack of energy attacks, he was often dominated by Kaiju who were his size. And every time he lost, the Kaiju who won would often try to fight him again just because they wanted to see him crawl away in defeat.
Because of this rather brutal childhood, Anguirus became scared of the world and would often find solace in burrowing underground where nobody could find him. But even that didn't help because there were Kaiju who had the ability to dig just like him and they'd often fight him for territory.
One Kaiju in particular who found it fun to harass him was none other than Varan The Unbelievable. When Anguirus came upon Komodo Island during the 1930s, all he wanted was a place to calmly settle down in without being ravaged by Kaiju. And since no Kaiju were in the area, he lived in relative safety for a few weeks.
Varan is a very territorial Kaiju, so naturally he wanted Anguirus off his turf. But the Ankylosaur tried to negotiate with Varan in some way by trying to convince him that they could live together if Anguirus shared a certain part of the island with Varan.
The giant lizard however, did not agree to Anguirus' offer and began to attack the Ankylosaur. While Anguirus tried his best to fight back, Varan's ability to fly and his acrobatic skills outmatched Anguirus due to him being inexperienced. And when Anguirus tried to leave Komodo Island, Varan stopped him for the sole reason of him enjoying making the Kaiju suffer.
Everytime Anguirus tried to find another home, he'd always get ravaged by Varan who would attack him almost every month just to taunt and belittle the poor Ankylosaur. Though this was enjoyable for Varan since he found pleasure in making Anguirus' life pure hell, it would result in a change when it came to the dinosaur's personality.
Anguirus was at his breaking point, and he finally decided that enough was enough. Over the years, he became more ferocious and cunning. Not caring about who he faced and how big or powerful they were. All he wanted in life was to prove that he meant something and he wasn't just a walking buffet waiting to fall.
He would often gore his enemies and shred them to the bone. to make a point that if they crossed his path and dared to hurt him, he'll make sure he torments them by shredding every piece of skin off of them.
In 1960, while digging underground, Anguirus arose in the city of Shanghai. Not understanding where he was, he decided to wander around the city, accidentally destroying it in the process.
It wasn't long until the military was deployed to intercept him. But when they started shooting him, all he did was wonder what these things were and why they thought they stood a chance. He even lifted a tank just to see what it was made of and shook it to get a reaction out of what he thought was an animal. When he shook the tank, the operators from within fell out and Anguirus inspected them and thought nothing of the humans and continued exploring the city.
Eventually, he left because of two reasons. Though they couldn't do anything to him, the humans were very annoying and always came back with more of their kind to face him in an attempt to ward him off. And the second reason was because he simply got bored of the city because he couldn't do much apart from walk around it so he swam away in search of another home.
It was then that he stumbled upon a random island near the artic called Iwato Island. There were Kaiju on it but they were smaller than him so he stayed a little longer because at least this place had things for him to snack on.
He dominated and ruled over Iwato Island. Nobody only the island could match his power and most of the time, the island was completely silent due to most of the Kaiju hiding in caves to avoid him. But since Anguirus was a cave dweller himself, he easily located them.
But his rule was cut short in 1962 when a stranger arrived on the island. Because he's built a reputation over the years, Anguirus was waiting to see what this new Kaiju was and he was more than confident that he would be able to make short work of said Kaiju.
What he didn't know was that the stranger was far out of his league.
Gojira, who was just a teenager during the time, arrived on Iwato Island in search of new territory. He was immediately greeted by Anguirus who proceeded to leap onto Gojira's face. The Kaiju King slammed him to the ground as they engaged in a fierce battle. Anguirus fled from the scene because he severely underestimated Gojira and was almost burned to dust by his Atomic Breath.
From that point onwards, Anguirus and Gojira would build a rivalry that would last for decades. Sometimes Gojira intentionally approached Anguirus in order to fight him. And sometimes their fights would end in ties due to Anguirus' durability improving as he grew older.
This almost became an obsession for both of the Kaiju. They didn't even care where they were, if the two were in close proximity to each other, they would fight no matter the circumstance.
It came to the point where Anguirus started to hate anything that looked remotely similar to Gojira. As the two grew older, Anguirus began to match Gojira when it came to physical abilities, evening the playing field with his rival. Which only made Gojira want to defeat him even more as their rivalry kept going.
In 1984, Anguirus attacked a city again for the first time since he attacked Shanghai in 1960. This time his target was the city of San Francisco. Because of a prey item escaping him, he ended up pursuing it until he reached the city. But by the time he got to his prey, the Kaiju-Force which was formed in the 1970s was alerted about Anguirus' sudden return.
While Anguirus tried to exit the city, he was approached by something that resembled Gojira but was made to destroy creatures like him.
The Kaiju-Force's flagship weapon, Mechagojira challenged Anguirus to a battle and the Ankylosaur, seeing that this thing looked like his rival, wasted no time and attacked almost immediately.
However, Anguirus was overwhelmed by Mechagojira's barrage of attacks. He hid behind a large building to reassess the situation and afterwards, he tunneled through the building and made it fall onto Mechagojira as he made his escape and dug underground again.
Anguirus was not seen again until 2001 when he resurfaced and attacked Yokohama after being lured there by the Kaiju-Force. They intended to use an experimental missile in order to drill into Anguirus' skin. When they attacked Anguirus, the Gotengo warship was the first to make it's move on him by trying to freeze him solid.
The battle lasted longer than they had anticipated because Anguirus stayed in Yokohama for three days. What's worse was that the missile they used on him did not pierce his hide and it ended up making him angrier instead.
As if the situation couldn't get any worse, a trio of Kaiju who have been ravaging the world for a while came to the city because of all the commotion. This trio were the Disaster Monsters which included the kangaroo kicking Gorosaurus, the Kaiju daredevil, Baragon, and Anguirus' old adversary, Varan himself.
Seeing Varan awakened a primordial rage within Anguirus. He remembered how this Kaiju used to enjoy making him suffer, but now he was going to show him what it truly meant to suffer.
Though Anguirus was outnumbered, he was way more durable than all three of the Disaster Monsters, he used his armored carapace to weaken the effect of Gorosaurus' Kangaroo Kick, and did the same when Baragon would try to use his magma abilities on him.
Because Anguirus had been fighting for so long with Gojira, he's used to fighting Kaiju who are stronger than him, so fighting Kaiju who were weaker than Gojira wasn't a problem for Anguirus. In fact, they were little more than an inconvenience for him.
At one point, Anguirus nearly tore off Gorosaurus' tail by pinning it down using a building and he was easily taking care of Baragon due to the Kaiju acting mostly on instinct instead of strategy like he was.
All that was left was Varan. The Unbelievable Reptile recognized Anguirus. He wondered why he was able to beat his teammates but he didn't care too much. And he would simply use the same tactics he used on Anguirus years ago when he was younger.
But Varan wouldn't be able to do anything of the sort. With a quick swing of his tail, Anguirus dislocated Varan's left leg which forced him to go on all fours and prevented him from getting into the sky. With Varan on the ground, Anguirus dragged him across Yokohama, slamming him into any building he saw. Varan tried in vain to wound Anguirus using his projectile tail spikes but they bounced off of his carapace. He then clamped down on Varan's tail and began to spin. When he let go, Varan slammed into a building and the building fell over in the opposite direction.
Anguirus didn't kill them. Not because he was tired or merciful, but because he'd like to face them off again some day just to humiliate them.
From the 2000s and onwards, the Kaiju-Force labeled Anguirus as one of the most powerful Kaiju on the list they knew of. He became so well known that certain evacuation centers had an icon of Anguirus when issuing warnings about Kaiju attacks.
In 2020, Anguirus was just peacefully minding his business on an unknown island. Until one day when he came upon a familiar sight. While looking out into the ocean, he saw three rows of black and white spikes. He knew who this was, and he stalked him without a second thought.
Gojira attacked Osaka in search of Minira. However, he fell into a sinkhole during the attack. After getting up, Anguirus showed himself and came there just to fight Gojira. It wasn't even because of territory, all he wanted was to fight Gojira because of their rivalry.
Because Gojira's main goal was to get to Minira, he tried as fast as he could to get rid of Anguirus, but the Ankylosaur used his speed in order to dodge his Atomic Breath and jump onto buildings. He also made Gojira stagger when he slammed into his chest. He did however, leave after an extended burn from Gojira's Atomic Breath.
From then on, Anguirus wasn't too active. He'd often move from island to island to find new prey to feed on but he stayed away from Gojira for a while. During 2022, Anguirus was briefly attacked by the alien race known as the Xilliens after they revealed their true colors and wanted to conquer the Earth. But Anguirus made mincemeat out of them without even needing to exert too much effort. He didn't really notice them until they started shooting him and even then he barely acknowledged their presence until he he finally got fed up with them.
In 2022, Anguirus was driven out of his home by the new threat known as Destoroyah. This led to him travelling to multiple cities around the globe in order to find a new home or escape Destoroyah.
Later that year, he was summoned to the Kaiju-Force headquarters via a psychic message sent by the Shobijin. Anguirus had never received something like this before so he wanted to investigate it. When he got to the Kaiju-Force HQ, his blood immediately boiled the moment he realized that one of the other Kaiju who were summoned was Gojira.
He almost started another fight with the Kaiju King before Mechagojira stepped in to stop them. He begrudgingly agreed to help, but only because if he didn't, Destoroyah would hunt him down.
Anguirus held his own when him and the other summoned Kaiju battled Destoroyah. However, his carapace almost shattered because of Destoroyah's Micro Oxygen Beam. In addition to sucking out oxygen, it's extremely powerful as well.
However, Gojira stopped Destoroyah before he could do any further damage to Anguirus. This made Anguirus question Gojira a little because he really didn't have to do that. They have been rivals for years, he'd probably be happy if he got rid of Anguirus. But he went through the trouble of saving him.
Anguirus made a huge dent when he rolled into Destoroyah's chest. But he was whacked away by the monster's tail. After the battle was over, Anguirus left the city of Tokyo but before he did, he gave Gojira a look. And nodded as a show of respect.
In 2023, Anguirus fought Hedorah's flying form in a powerplant in Japan Hedorah was attracted to due to the smog in the area. Though Hedorah had the upper hand, Anguirus did get a good hit when he slammed Hedorah into an area in the plant that conducted a lot of electricity. This gave the newly formed Kaiju-Alliance a clue as to how they could defeat Hedorah due to him retreating after that fight.
They then constructed an electrical field at the foot of Mount Fuji. Anguirus did not participate in the fight because of the damage he sustained during his fight with Hedorah.
In 2024, after Gojira's nemesis Bagan awakened his Chaos Monsters, Anguirus went to Egypt where he sensed unusual activity in the area. When he arrived in Cairo, he was met with the God of Preservation, Gizabis. Who was one of Bagan's teammates.
The two engaged in a long fight where Anguirus had difficulty fighting Gizabis due to the stone lion creating multiple structures using the Earth's natural resources. After their bout, Gizabis escaped after he heard Bagan's alpha call.
Anguirus was one of the Kaiju who followed the Kaiju-Alliance in search of the lost city of Nilai-Kanai. When Bagan and his team tracked them down there, Anguirus headed straight for Gizabis.
Note: in Gizabis' profile, I mentioned how he was killed due to Krystalak accidently shooting him with his ice powers. But I rewrote it after a suggestion from my brother.
Because he already had an encounter with Gizabis, he knew what the Kaiju was capable of so instead of trying to avoid the many stone pillars Gizabis created, he used them to his advantage. He began to jump on them like how he'd jump on buildings and the more he did this, the closer he got to Gizabis.
In the last part of the fight, Gizabis had realized that Bagan's goal of killing Gojira's kind and enslaving others was wrong. Which is why when Anguirus charged at him one last time, he didn't attempt to stop Anguirus due to him being guilty about helping such a monster get to this point. Anguirus destroyed him by using his digging ability to shatter Gizabis, but it wasn't easy due to him being made of a stronger type of rock.
When Anguirus left after the battle, Gojira followed him and gestured for him to follow. It was at that point where Anguirus would live on Gojira's home of Sollgel Island where he started to get along with the Kaiju King and he finally ended their rivalry, not through blood, but because of respect.
Anguirus' personality is the way it is due to how he grew up. He's aggressive, cunning, and somewhat arrogant and reckless. But most of the time, he does what he does to survive. He's also very intelligent and observant. Like how he realized that Gizabis was made of stone which is why he got the idea to drill through him during their last fight.
He's also capable of understanding who's an enemy and who isn't. He also gained respect for Gojira after the former saved his life.
Abilities:
Physical Capabilities:
Though he lacks energy attacks, he's a physical match for Gojira. He's equally as strong as the Kaiju King which is why he's been able to survive every encounter they've been in the past.
Durability:
His armor gives him absurd amounts of durability. It took something like Destoroyah's Micro Oxygen Beam to cause some real damage to it. And as Anguirus grew older, his durability became stronger.
Agility:
Anguirus is one of the fastest land Kaiju. Despite his weight, he can freely jump on tall structures.
Burrowing:
Because of how his claws are structured, he can dig extremely fast and he uses echolocation at times to see his surroundings through cave systems.
Bite:
He has an extremely powerful bite and a tight grip. The fangs are the reason why he has such a good grip since they were designed to hook into their target.
Sharp Leap:
This maneuver can be used when Anguirus turns his back and jumps backwards to his enemies. Using his back spikes to damage them.
Spikes:
Unlike other Kaiju spikes that are used to conduct energy, Anguirus' spikes work very differently. Because he can retract his spikes. If he chooses to, the spikes can bend backwards. The reason his kind can do this is because is to accommodate their mate during breeding so they won't be pierced by the spikes. But Anguirus uses the ability to bend his spikes for something else.
Hammer Tail:
Being an Ankylosaurid, naturally he has a sort of mace or club on the tip of his tail. If he hits a single part of his opponent's body more than once, it will break their bones.
Regeneration:
Like Gojira, he has healing capabilities. They're so effective, he was even able to heal his carapace in a month after it was nearly shattered by Destoroyah.
Death Spin:
Anguirus developed a technique that the rest of his species aren't aware of. During his childhood, Kaiju often pushed him away and made him roll to humiliate him. In his adulthood, he turned this weakness into a strength. coupled with the ability to bend his spikes, he tucks his limbs and positions his tail in a way to make himself look like a ball. The spikes help in giving him more momentum when rolling. And this maneuver was so effective it made Gojira stagger backwards and leave a dent in Destoroyah's chest.
Trivia:
• The head of this Anguirus is suppose to be more dragon like. Since one of Anguirus' nicknames is that he's The Fierce Dragon. Although his head was also inspired by Showa and Singular Point Anguirus.
• The reason why Anguirus is the only one of his kind who can roll is because I wanted him to stand out from the others of his species.
• His species name relates to the fact that he looks like a dragon and his shell gives him insane amounts of durability like a fortress.
• His roars are simply a deeper version of the originals but are mixed with elephant or bear sounds.
• He and Gojira are the same age.
• Originally, Anguirus was going to die in the Osaka fight but I kept him alive because he's such an iconic Kaiju. I didn't want to waste him by giving him a glorified cameo.
• Him and Gojira fighting in Osaka is a reference to Godzilla Raids Again where Godzilla and Anguirus' main battle takes place in Osaka.
• Apart from Bagan, he's the Kaiju who Gojira hated the most. That was until he became his ally.
• Like in official media, his name is pronounced in several different ways. The reason why is because of multiple translations. Although, it's Mia Shobijin who keeps calls him Angilas because she always mispronounces his name.
• Him fighting Baragon and Varan in Yokohama and in 2001 is a reference to what GMK was supposed to be. Where Godzilla was going to fight Anguirus, Varan, and Baragon. But this time it's Anguirus who's the one that is outnumbered.
• He and Gojira are the only two Kaiju in recorded history who've beaten the Disaster Monsters on their own.
• In an earlier draft, Anguirus was part of the Disaster Monsters. But it was rewritten and I'm not sure why I cut it out but honestly, I prefer the idea of Anguirus being a lone wolf for a majority of his life.
• Him battling Mechagojira is obviously a reference to Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla. But at least this time he doesn't get his jaw broken.
• Originally, he was supposed to have a frill instead of his usual crown of spikes.
• His coloration is based off of Anguirus from Godzilla Final Wars in which Anguirus was a greyish blue, at least from what I can see.
• I had plans to give him an ability called Sonic Screech which as the name implies, is a loud roar that he can use as a weapon. But I cut it and repurposed it and turned it into Titanosaurus' Omega Roar.
• The reason why I decided not to give him energy attacks is to make him feel like the underdog of the Kaiju. What he lacks in powers, he makes up for it in raw strength.
• Anguirus was the second Kaiju I thought of designing after Gojira at least from memory.
• Before anything else, his fight with Gojira was the first thing I started planning out for the entire series. I didn't even know where to put it at first since it was the first scene I thought of.
• He's one of the only Kaiju who is omnivorous. Meaning he doesn't need to pick his food and can eat both meat and plants.
• He's had a very long development stage when it came to his design. His original look had bulkier legs and a shorter neck. His spiked crown was far more reduced and smaller and his tail club looked more like a wrecking ball. Unlike Gojira, me and my brother only perfected his design this month.
• One of my other drafts already had him as Gojira's right hand man. But I thought it would be more interesting to give him a reason as to why he became friends with Gojira.
• His spikes are pointed backwards unlike every other official design. They were designed like this because they'd help with him gaining speed while rolling. If I positioned his spikes forward, he would've been stuck to the ground if he tried to roll.
• He's the only Kaiju Gojira has problems with when trying to hit him with his Atomic Breath.
